Main Screen Selections

Instructions Page 1

The three boxes at the top of the main screen are where you type in values and see the conversions.  You can see two conversions for each value.  Tap the small buttons on the right of the boxes to change the conversion units.

The Menu button lets you change the type of conversion units.

Volume (U.K to U.S.), Standing Time and Substitutions are only available on the Cook's Convertor Plus version.


Standard Keypad

The Standard keypad allows numbers and fractions to be entered in whichever box is highlighted in orange.

The Fractions Button lets you enter common fractions, 1/4, 1/2 or 3/4. 
Repeatedly pressing the key will change the quantity.  On the fourth press you will get a decimal dot in your number which then lets you enter any decimal fraction you like.  Only certain units, (generally imperial units such as ounces, cups, teaspoons, tablespoons etc) allow the Fractions Key. 

Decimalkey For other units such as millilitres you will see a Decimal Point Button

If you do not like the Fractions Key then you can switch it off from the Settings screen (just swipe the keypad leftwards until you reach it)
Turn off the switch and you will only see the Decimal Point Button.


Math Keypad

The Math Keypad lets you add, subtract, multiply and divide quantities.  These features are only enabled in the Plus version.
The use the math functions simply swipe the keypad right until you reach the math keypad.  You can add different types of quantities together


Example 1:  To add 5 fluid ounces to 6 fluid ounces.... (easy I know ;) and see results in cups

1) Select Fluid ounces for box 1, and cups for box 2
2) Type 5 in box 1

3) Press '+'.  The abbreviation 'fl oz' appears in your box. You will also notice that the math function keys are replaced by a large equals key '='

4) Press '6'

6) The result in fluid ounces is shown in box 1 and the result in cups is shown in box 2
7) You can now use another math function if you wish, and carry on adding (or other functions) as long as you like.


Example 2: To add 1 cup to 2 fluid ounces and see the result in fluid ounces and cups

1) Select cups in box 1; and cups in box 2
2) Type '1' in box 1

3) Press '+'. The abbreviation 'cup' will appear in your box.

4) Change the units in box 1 to fluid ounces.  The numbers you now type in will be in fluid ounces.

5) Type '2'.  You will see the answer in cups in box 2 immediately.

6) Press '=' and the result in fluid ounces will be shown in box 1 (In U.S. Units in this case)

7) You can now use another math function if you wish, and carry on adding (or other functions) as long as you like.


Example 3: Divide 3½ cups by 2 and see the result in cups and fluid ounces

1) Select cups in box 1 and fluid ounces in box 2
2) Type '3½' in box 1

3) Press '/'.  You will notice that NO abbreviation appears in the box.  This is because dividing or mulitplying one type of unit by another has no meaning for our units; in otherwords things like; 1 fluid ounce times 3 tablespoons make no sense.

4) Type '2'.  The result in fluid ounces appears in box 2 immediately.

5) Press '=' and the result in cups is shown in box 1...
